WILLIAMSBURG — The Corbin Lady Redhounds are Class 2A, Section 7 champions after upending Whitley County, 1-0, in Thursday’s title game.
The win, Corbin’s third in a row, improved the Lady Redhounds to 4-2-1 on the season while the Lady Colonels fell to 4-2.
“I’m just super proud of my team tonight,” Corbin coach Hannah Goins said. “Whitley is always a tough physical game, it was a challenge, but we came in ready and fought hard for the win.
“I think we controlled the game very well,” she added. “We’re still struggling to find the back of net a little but we were able to put one away for the win.
The game was a tight match throughout on the pitcher with Jersey Roberson’s goal during the 13th minute proving to be the game winner.
“We had a lot of opportunities, and played well together tonight,” Goins said. “We’re very excited to be able to advance to 2A state again. It was one of our goals we set during preseason and I’m very proud of my team for accomplishing that. They put in a lot of work and effort and it definitely paid off tonight.”
