Hatcher Throws Five Touchdowns as Williamsburg Rolls Past Leslie County, 44-6

WILLIAMSBURG — Reece Hatcher put together a huge performance through the air, throwing five touchdown passes and accounting for close to 300 passing yards as Williamsburg rolled past Leslie County, 44-6.

Hatcher also threw four two-point conversion passes as the Yellow Jackets overcame a slow start before taking control of the game.

“We came out ready to play,” Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron said. “We struggled a little bit in the first quarter but took care of business in the second.”

Hatcher connected with T.J. Cornett for a 16-yard touchdown to get the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard. Lane Jeffries hauled in the ensuing two-point conversion.

Williamsburg’s defense then got into the scoring act when Noah Jones intercepted a Leslie County pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. Jeffries again caught the two-point conversion.

Chase Meddles became Hatcher’s next target, catching a six-yard touchdown pass. Jeffries added another two-point reception.

Hatcher and Meddles connected again for a 35-yard touchdown, with Jeffries once again hauling in the two-point conversion.

Cornett then delivered Williamsburg’s biggest offensive play of the night, catching a Hatcher pass and taking it 61 yards for a touchdown.

Hatcher and Cornett connected for the third time later in the game, this time on a 13-yard touchdown pass to complete Hatcher’s five-touchdown performance.

Williamsburg’s defense limited Leslie County to six points, an effort that pleased Herron.

“Played good defense,” Herron said. “At times played really well on offense. Some missed assignments on the line caused us some trouble.”

The Yellow Jackets also had to overcome injuries during the victory.

“Couple of injuries tonight, and that hurt us,” Herron said. “Kids played good tonight.”

Hatcher finished the night with five touchdown passes and close to 300 passing yards, while Cornett caught three touchdowns and Meddles added two. Jones’ 48-yard interception return accounted for Williamsburg’s other touchdown in the 44-6 victory.
