Redhounds Erupt for 35 First-Quarter Points, Roll Past Western Hills, OH

CORBIN — It took Corbin only 12 seconds to find the end zone Friday night, and the Redhounds never slowed down from there.
Jake Salmons returned the opening kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown, igniting a 35-point first-quarter explosion as Corbin rolled past Western Hills, Ohio, 38-14.
“Great to start the season 1-0,” Corbin coach Luke Salmon’s said. “I’m excited about this team and looking forward to seeing us continue to improve each week. Our varsity played two quarters and did a great job, and we were able to get a lot of kids on the field and get them some valuable experience. We’re looking forward to the next one. Go Redhounds.”
After Salmons’ kickoff return gave the Redhounds an immediate 7-0 advantage, he struck again midway through the opening quarter. Mason Salmons connected with Jake Salmons on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 6:27 remaining, and the extra point extended Corbin’s lead to 14-0.
The Redhounds needed only 35 seconds to score again.
Trey Person powered into the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run with 5:52 remaining, pushing the advantage to 21-0.
Mason Salmons then showed off his arm, connecting with Andreas Reese on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 3:47 left in the first quarter.
Corbin’s quarterback finished off the remarkable opening period himself, scoring on a two-yard run with 2:01 remaining. The extra point gave the Redhounds a commanding 35-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.
Corbin added to its advantage late in the second when Sebastian Witherington connected on a 32-yard field goal with 1:53 remaining, sending the Redhounds into halftime with a 38-0 lead.
Western Hills finally broke through with a 20-yard touchdown run with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter. The two-point conversion failed, leaving Corbin ahead 38-6.
Western Hills added its final touchdown on a 63-yard run with 1:30 remaining in the game and converted the two-point attempt to produce the final 38-14 margin.
Mason Salmons accounted for three touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, while Jake Salmons scored twice as Corbin used its explosive opening quarter to put the game away early.
