CORBIN — Corbin broke into the win column Monday night behind goals from Bentley Hoskins and Santiago Trejo, shutting out Oneida Baptist Institute, 2-0.
The victory improved the Redhounds to 1-1 on the season.
After a physical opening half, Corbin took control over the final 40 minutes and turned in a strong defensive performance to preserve the shutout.
“We got the 2-0 victory tonight with goals by Bentley Hoskins and Santiago Trejo,” Corbin coach Roger Taylor said. “The first half was very scrappy, but I thought we completely controlled the second half other than one great one versus one save by keeper Josthyn Betancourt. Our back line, led by Jackson Willis was excellent in the final 40 minutes.”
Betancourt’s one-on-one save helped keep Oneida Baptist off the scoreboard, while Corbin’s defense limited the Mountaineers’ opportunities throughout the second half.
Despite the two-goal victory, Taylor knows the Redhounds still have room to improve offensively as the season progresses.
“Wish we could have been more clinical with the final pass and our shooting, but it’s still early in the season with lots to work on,” he said.
