Lady Tigers Roar Past Williamsburg in Season Opener

BARBOURVILLE — Barbourville opened its volleyball season in impressive fashion Monday, defeating Williamsburg in four sets to begin the year with a 1-0 record.

The Lady Tigers took control early with a 25-15 victory in the opening set before being pushed to the limit by Williamsburg in the second.

Barbourville prevailed in a back-and-forth battle, 29-27, to take a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match.

Williamsburg refused to go quietly, responding with a 25-21 victory in the third set to force a fourth.

But the Lady Tigers answered.

Barbourville closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set, securing the 3-1 victory and giving coach Bry Strunk’s squad a successful start to the season.

“We played like our feet were on fire tonight,” Strunk said. “If that same team shows up for district, I think they’ll walk out of that gym to a champions parade. I’m unbelievably proud of them for constantly talking, constantly moving, and constantly fighting back. Every single girl on that court helped earn that win tonight. It was a true full team effort.”
