HARLAN — Knox Central picked up a big regional road win on Monday, defeating Harlan in four sets, 25-15, 24-26, 25-9, and 25-20.
“Harlan is definitely not a team to underestimate,” coach Erin Salyers said. “Sierra Crow’s Lady Dragons played with a lot of grit and determination and made us work for that win. We came out strong in the first set, but in the second we made too many unforced errors, missed serves, hitting errors, and just mistakes that we know we have to clean up. I was really proud of the way my girls responded after dropping that set. They didn’t let it shake them. They came out in the third and took control, 25-9.
“I’m especially proud that we were able to bring home three wins last night,” she added. “As a young coach with a really young group of girls, that means a lot to me. We know we’re going to be underestimated at times, and that’s okay with us. We’re still learning, we’re still growing, and we’ll be right back in the gym today working to get better. I’m really excited to see what this group becomes as the season goes on.”
Salyers was also happy with the effort Rayni Reeves brought to the table in the win.
“She has grown so much and has really become a weapon for us, both with her hitting and behind the service line,” she said. “And if I could use one word to describe Kennadi Jones at the net, it would be ruthless. She has been absolutely dominant up there. Overall, I’m just really proud of the effort my girls gave last night and the way they continued to fight.”
