Lady Colonels Roll to 8-0 Win in Season Opener

HInDMAN — Whitley County’s girls soccer team couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the 2026 season.

The Lady Colonels opened the year in dominant fashion, rolling to an 8-0 road win over Knott County Central.

Courtney Smith led the way with three goals, recording the first hat trick of her career. Jerrica Shepherd added two goals, while Kaylee Bunch, Kierra Mullins and Maci Carr each found the back of the net once.

“The Lady Colonels earned their first win of the season under new co-coaches Ilias Lankford and Becky Prewitt, delivering a dominant performance from the opening whistle,” Prewitt said. “Goalkeeper London Isaac recorded her first shutout of the year, anchoring a strong defensive effort.

“In the midfield, Kierra Mullins, Keira Cheek, and Jerrica Shepherd controlled the tempo and set the tone for the attack,” she added. “Jerrica Shepherd opened the scoring and finished with two goals while Courtney notched her first career hat trick. A host of Whitley players also found the back of the net as the Colonels overwhelmed their opponent. Player of the game goes to defensive standout Kelsey Vanover.”
