Lady Jaguars capture sixth straight 49th District crown

LONDON — North Laurel captured its sixth consecutive 49th District Tournament championship thanks to a 10-0 win over Jackson County on Thursday.

The Lady Jaguars (27-6) pounded out 16 hits and was led by Emma Carl’s three-hit, three-RBI effort at the plate while Tessa Monhollen dominated once again in the pitcher’s circle, allowing only two hits, and striking out eight batters.

“Really good night for my girls,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit. Multiple hits from Emma Carl, Katie Sams, Bella Finley, Tessa Monhollen, Katie Keen, and Caylee Singleton.

We also had some great situational hitting. Runner on third with less than 2 outs twice and we put the ball in play to score that runner. Those aren’t hits but those little things win games this time of year.

“Tessa was great again in the circle,” he added. “Only two hits allowed with zero walks and eight strikeouts. Simply outstanding but that is the norm with her this season.

“The last week of our regular season was set up to challenge us and it certainly did,” Edwards continued. “But all of those games were an effort to get us ready for tonight. Proud of my girls for the season they had and proud of our girls for their performance tonight. Second goal of the season has been accomplished. Region draw later this week. Go Jags.”
