Lady Cardinals capture ninth win in a row and 30th victory

LONDON — Aubrie Messer powered South Laurel at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle Tuesday as the red-hot Lady Cardinals stretched their winning streak to nine games with a 12-5 victory over Perry Central.

Messer went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while also earning the win in the circle after striking out three over five innings. Lexi Messer added two RBI, Emmie Rice homered and drove in two runs, and Bailey Frazier finished with two hits, including a home run, as South Laurel improved to 30-5 on the season.

“It’s always tough to play on senior night and the emotions that come along with it,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Aubrie Messer battled in the circle and gave us five strong innings and Lexi Messer came in and finished it. We got behind in top of the 2nd 3-1 and in the bottom we responded and put together a big inning. Big swings from Bailey, Aubrie, Emmie, and Kenzie tonight. It was just a great night honoring our seniors, Audrey, Aubrie, Bailey, Kiley, and Taya. We are thankful for all they have done for our program.”

South Laurel broke the game open with a seven-run second inning after trailing 3-1. The Lady Cardinals answered with four extra-base hits in the frame and never looked back.

Kenzie Williams added a solo home run and scored twice while Ryleigh Bretz drove in two runs. Rice reached base three times with two walks and a homer, and Kiley Dunaway doubled and scored a run.
