Jaguars can’t hold early lead in loss to Rockcastle County

MT. VERNON — North Laurel jumped out to an early five-run lead Monday, but Rockcastle County answered, and rolled to a 13-7 victory over the Jaguars.

Darren McWhorter’s squad was looking to build on its recent success, but couldn’t hold on. 

The Jaguars (16-13) scored five runs in the top of the first inning before Rockcastle County responded with eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to seize control. The Rockets added two runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth inning and another insurance run in the fifth inning  while totaling 11 hits.

Cam Hinkle led North Laurel at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double, triple and an RBI. Jude McWhorter added a double and drove in two runs while Ashton Napier finished with a hit and RBI. Eli Holt, Colton Stewart and Colter Elza also recorded hits for the Jaguars.

Colton Stewart took the loss after allowing eight earned on nine hits over three innings. McWhorter worked two innings in relief, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out one. Noah Hamm tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
