CORBIN — Trey Person and Clay Botner helped power Corbin to its third straight victory Monday as the Redhounds defeated Harlan County, 6-3.
Person drove in two runs and added a hit and two stolen bases while Botner scored twice and finished with two hits, including a double. Levi Brock also drove in two runs for the Redhounds.
“Mal threw well again, he’s been solid all year,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Great to have Botner back on the mound to finish it for us.”
Corbin (17-14) took control early, scoring once in the first inning and twice more in the second inning to build a 3-0 advantage. Harlan County answered with a run in the third and added two more in the fifth to trim the deficit to 4-3, but the Redhounds responded with two insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Dallas Merida scored twice and reached base twice via walks while Cam Estep drew three walks and scored a run. Jaden Broughton added an RBI for Corbin.
The Redhounds were aggressive on the base path throughout the game, stealing six bases as Person and Merida each had two apiece.
Malachi Zachery earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings while striking out two. Botner worked the final two innings in relief to earn the save, giving up just one hit while striking out two.
