Lady Redhounds pick up much-needed win

CORBIN — Sawyer Stamper’s game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth capped off a thrilling 12-11 win for Corbin on Thursday while snapping a three-game losing skid in the process.

Corbin (5-15) built a 6-1 lead, and looked to be in cruise control before Middlesboro scored nine runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-6 lead.

The Lady Redhounds responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-10 advantage before the Lady Yellow Jackets tied the game at 11 apiece in the sixth inning.

“I’m so proud of my team,0 Corbin coach Crystal Stidham said. “They have been down and fought back and have hung in games with the best of them and fell short. We fought through adversity on the field and didn’t let that affect our bats. We came to the plate every time to hit or put the ball in play. There was never a time they weren’t ready at the plate.

“We collected 15 hits on the night,” she added. “Apple Terrell homered and went 3 for 5, and Mikaila Hopkins, Makenna Wilson and Sawyer Stamper each had two hits on the night.  While Kaili Sanders, Chloe Bays, Parker Davis, Cami Price, and Macie Santos all had hits. Parker Davis had a huge hit to score three runs putting along with Apple bringing in two runs as well. Just glad to pick up this win and just want to see these girls get better. Let’s go Lady Redhounds.”
