North Laurel rolls past Wayne County behind 17-hit effort

MONTICELLO — Chris Edwards’ North Laurel are one win away from capturing at least 20 wins for the fifth year in a row.

The Lady Jaguars (19-2) hit the road and knocked off Wayne County on Thursday with an 11-4 decision.

“We came out a little flat tonight and really didn’t get going offensively until the middle of the game,” North Laurel  coach Chris Edwards said. “Fortunately, we were able to string some hits together in a couple of innings and push some runs across.”

The Lady Jaguars trailed 4-0 before finally catching fire at the plate. North Laurel scored three runs in the third inning, and added six more in the fourth inning to take control.

“Multiple hits from Katie Sams, Bella Finley, Tessa Monhollen, Lucy Jo Linville, Katie Keen and Reeselynn Garland,” Edwards said. “Tessa had a couple of doubles and Lucy Jo got her first home run of the season.

“Caylee got her first start since she took a line drive off the face mask this weekend,” he added. “She threw pretty well but had some walks. Alex Allen, a seventh grader came in, finished the game and got her first varsity win. They only gave up seven hits combined so a pretty good combined. Proud of both of them tonight. Corbin rolls in here tomorrow and a triangle at West Jessamine this weekend. Lots of softball left to play this week. Go Jags.”
