Red-hot Jaguars push win streak to eight games with 2-1 victory over Corbin

CORBIN — Thursday’s matchup between North Laurel and Corbin was a tale of two teams heading in opposite directions.

The Jaguars captured their eighth win in a row by defeating the Redhounds, 2-1, while Corbin dropped its third consecutive one-run loss.

It also marked the second time North Laurel (13-7) has beaten the Redhounds this season.

“Always nice when you can get a win at Corbin,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “Zac Johnston was our MVP on the mound tonight, pitched seven innings, allowed three hits, one run and had five strikeouts. He has pitched well all year but his last two outings were 2-1 wins over Madison Southern and Corbin and he was locating his pitches all night.

“Ashton Napier hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the fourth, and then Ashton had an RBI hit for the go-ahead run. It was a well played game by both teams. We also played an error-free game. Great day to be a Jaguar — eight in a row.”

The game was tied at one apiece until the top of the sixth inning when Ashton Napier connected with a run-scoring hit that scored Cam Smith. That would be all the runs the Jaguars needed.

Corbin had no answer for North Laurel pitcher Zac Johnston, who tossed a complete game three-hitter while allowing only one run. He also struck out for batters.

Napier lex the Jaguars with a hit and two RBI while Smith, and Cam Hinkle had a hit apiece.

Trey Person led the Redhounds (12-8) two hits and an RBI while Cam Estep had a hit and a run scored.
