BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central’s Matthew Powenski had a day at the plate and on the pitcher’s mound, dominating the action during Tuesday’s 51st District matchup with Barbourville.
Powenski went 3-for-3 at the plate while driving in four runs, and limited the Tigers to only two hits, finishing with four strikeouts in the 15-0.
The Panthers (13-6) are winners of six straight, and improve to 2-0 in district play while Barbourville falls to 0-13 overall, and 0-3 in district play.
“Took care of business tonight,” Knox Central coach Mike Bright said. “Matthew powenski did a great job on the mound tonight. Good way to start the week.”
Knox Central scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding four runs in the second inning, five runs in the third inning, and three runs in the fourth inning.
Trevor Smith finished with two hits, an RBI and scored four times while Ethan Ramsey delivered a hit and an RBI. Tate Marcum, Landen Daughtry, Brady Engle, and Noah Gray each had a hit apiece. Jathan Collins also drove in a run.
