Southwestern rallies late to edge South Laurel, 4-3

SOMERSET — South Laurel looked to be in control early, but a late rally by Southwestern proved to be the difference as the Warriors rallied for a 4-3 win on Thursday.

The Cardinals (10-8) built a 3-0 edge through four innings, but couldn’t hold on, leading to its fourth loss in a row.

Reece Noble led the way for the Cardinals, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Waylon Hensley added two hits.

Carter Kelley had a hit and an RBI while Bryson Turner, and Jamison West both had a hit apiece.

South Laurel’s pitching kept Southwestern quiet through five innings.

Jackson Catching was sharp on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing just three hits and four runs (none earned) with four strikeouts.

But the sixth inning turned the game.

Southwestern took advantage of defensive miscues, scoring four runs in the inning to erase its deficit and take a 4-3 lead, and never looked back.
