Ramsey, Smith lead Knox Central past Harlan; Panthers win third straight

BARBOURVILLE — Easton Ramsey set the tone early on the mound while Trevor Smith delivered at the plate, helping Knox Central roll to an 8-2 win over Harlan on Friday and extend its winning streak to three games.

Ramsey picked up the win, allowing just one run on two hits over three innings while Russell Mills followed with four strong innings in relief, combining with Ramsey to limit Harlan to just six hits and two runs on the night.

“We threw the ball well tonight and backed up our pitchers,” Knox Central coach Mike Bright said. “We got the big hit when we needed to early to score five in the first inning.”

Offensively, Knox Central wasted no time to jump on the Green Dragons.

The Panthers (7-5) scored five runs in the first inning, immediately taking control of the game. Brady Engle and Hayden Melton each scored twice while Smith and Ramsey drove in a pair of runs apiece to pace a balanced attack.

Knox Central added three more runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 8-1 before securing the win.
