WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg put the game away before Barbourville could settle in, erupting for 11 runs in the opening inning en route to a 17-1 victory Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2) followed the explosive opening frame with two runs in the second inning and four more in the third inning, ending the game in three innings.
“We played well tonight. Swung the bat well and played well in the field. Our pitcher Hayden did what we needed him to do on the mound and threw strikes. Overall, a really good day for us.”
Jacob Jones led Williamsburg, finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI. Colton Gobel added a 2-for-2 performance with two RBI, while Brydon Moore scored three runs and drove in two.
Logan Petrey chipped in with a hit and two RBI, and Braden Burdette delivered a hit and three RBI.
Hayden Kleinert earned the win, allowing the Tigers just one hit and one run over three innings while striking out six.
Barbourville (0-9) scored its lone run in the third inning while Konner Bureman had the Tigers’ only hit.
