Mt. Vernon blanks South Laurel, 3-0

LONDON — South Laurel couldn’t get the bats going Thursday, falling to Mt. Vernon 3-0 in a quiet game at the plate.

The Lady Cardinals (8-3) were limited to just three hits and struck out 15 times during their first shut out loss of the season.

Bailey Frazier, Morgan Jackson and Aubrie Messer each recorded a hit for South Laurel.

Mt. Vernon broke through in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 edge, then added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away.

Despite the loss, Kenzie Williams turned in another solid effort in the pitcher’s circle, going the distance while striking out 11 and allowing just three runs with only two of them earned.
