South Laurel rallies past St. Mary’s with 5-3 win

LONDON — South Laurel used a late-inning push to turn the tide and knock off St. Mary’s, 5-3, on Thursday.

After falling behind early, the Cardinals (7-2) stayed within striking distance before breaking through in the sixth inning with a three-run rally.

South Laurel managed just two hits but made the most of its opportunities, drawing five walks and applying pressure on the bases.

Reece Noble reached base and scored while also stealing three bases, and Carter Kelley delivered a key RBI. Jackson Catching also drove in a run, and the Cardinals were aggressive on the bases, finishing with six stolen bases.

St. Mary’s grabbed the early lead with two runs in the first inning and added another in the fifth, but South Laurel answered in the fourth and then took control late.

On the mound, Waylon Hensley worked 4.1 innings, allowing three runs while striking out 10. Catching came on in relief and shut the door, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win.
