Lady Cardinals dig early hole, fall to Franklin, 8-2

South Laurel couldn’t recover from an early deficit as Franklin scored eight runs in the first two innings to defeat the Lady Cardinals, 8-2, on Wednesday.

Franklin plated scored runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to seize control before South Laurel settled in defensively the remainder of the game.

Aubrie Messer and Kiley Dunaway accounted for South Laurel’s two runs with Dunaway driving in a run and scoring once. Messer also scored and had a hit while Kenzie Williams added a hit for the Lady Cardinals.

South Laurel was limited to just three hits in the game.

Lexi Messer provided a strong effort in relief, tossing five innings while allowing just two hits and no runs, and striking out five batters.
