FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Emmie Rice delivered the big swing and Audrey Likins helped set the tone at the plate, but South Laurel came up just short in a 6-5 loss to Logan Elm on Monday.
Rice powered the Lady Cardinals (7-1) offensively with a home run while finishing with two hits and an RBI. Likins added two hits, an RBI, and a run scored as South Laurel put together an eight-hit effort.
South Laurel showed fight throughout.
After falling behind early, the Lady Cardinals answered in the second inning, then cut their deficit to 4-3 with a two-run fourth inning to grab momentum. They added two more runs in the sixth to tie the game at five apiece in the sixth inning before falling in the bottom of the seventh.
Morgan Jackson chipped in with two hits and an RBI while Skye Lawson and Ryleigh Bretz each added RBI.
Aubrie Messer turned in a solid outing in the pitcher’s circle, going 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts, allowing just one earned run while South Laurel’s committed three costly errors defensively.
