Carl, Garland Lead North Laurel in 11-1 Rout of Harlan

LONDON — Behind big performances from Emma Carl and Reeselyn Garland scoring runs and producing at the plate, North Laurel continued its hot start with an 11-1 win over Harlan on Tuesday.

Carl led the way with a dominant effort, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Garland added three hits, two runs and an RBI. Katie Sams also turned in a solid effort, scoring three runs and collecting two hits, as the Lady Jaguars (5-0) pounded out 12 hits in the win.

“Happy with my girls again tonight,”  North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “A good outing in a lot of respects. Presley Griffin threw a 3 hitter tonight, several hits throughout the lineup, too. A good day our team. Offensively 12 hits, multiple hits from Emma, Katie Sams, and Reeselynn Garland. 6 of the 12 hits were extra bases also. We seen the ball well tonight.

“As I said, Griffin threw a three-hitter with only a couple of walks,” he added. “Flooded the zone with strikes and we made the plays behind her. As I’ve always said, pitching and defense are critical. I would like to give a shout out to Harlan and Coach Lewis. They scheduled this game early and Coach Lewis said he wanted to challenge his team. They are very young and they are doing it right at Harlan and they are gonna be a handful before this season is over. Another couple of big games this week before we head to the beach. Today was a good day to be a Jaguar. Go Jags.”

North Laurel wasted no time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second before breaking the game open with a five-run third inning.

In the pitcher’s circle, Presley Griffin picked up the win, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings while keeping Harlan off balance throughout.
