HARLAN — Behind a dominant performance in the circle from Alexis Adams, Harlan County punched its ticket to the semifinals of the 2A, Section 7 tournament with a 3-0 win over Rockcastle County on Saturday.
Adams was sensational from start to finish, firing a complete-game one-hitter while striking out nine and walking none. The junior faced just 24 batters and needed only 89 pitches (67 strikes) to completely control the game.
Harlan County (2-1) wasted no time giving its ace some early support. The Lady Black Bears pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first inning, setting the tone early. They added an insurance run in the fifth to seal the shutout victory.
Offensively, Jordyn Smith led the way with a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two doubles. Raegan Landa and Kendall Brock each added two hits, while Adams helped her own cause with an RBI.
Alyssa Sherman scored twice and reached base twice, helping ignite the offense at the top of the lineup.
Rockcastle County managed just one hit in the contest and never advanced a runner into scoring position as Adams kept the Lady Rockets off balance all afternoon.
With the win, Harlan County advances to the semifinals where the Lady Black Bears will face McCreary Central on Tuesday night.
