HYDEN — Tessa Monhollen brought her ‘A’ game to the pitcher’s circle while Emma Carl delivered at the plate as defending 13th Region champion North Laurel handed Leslie County a 5-0 loss on Thursday.
“Good win for the girls tonight,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “Good start to the season. Some timely hits pushed some runs across for us. Emma and Lucy Jo with multiple hits.”
Monhollen tossed a perfect game while striking out 13 batters. Carl went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two RBI, and one run scored while Lucy Jo Linville had two hits and scored twice. Presley Griffin finished with a hit and a run scored while Caylee Singleton had two walks, and scored once.
“Tessa was great on the mound with a perfect game,” Edwards said. “She has picked up right where she was last season. Great way for her to start the season.
“Lots of credit to the Leslie county team and pitcher,” he added. “They are much-improved and Maggard can really throw it. We hadn’t seen her before — she throws very hard and tonight was a really good challenge for the first game of the season.
“We have such a long way to go to get where we want to be,” Edwards continued. “Lots of new pieces. Lots of people playing different positions. this team is just trying to find their way and tonight was a good start. Proud of my girls. Go Jags.”
