Lady Jaguars earn 15th straight 13th Region Tournament bid with win over OBI

MANCHESTER — North Laurel locked up its 15th straight trip to the 13th Region Girls’ Tournament with an easy, 73–12, win over Oneida Baptist during semifinal action of the 49th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.

The Lady Jaguars built a 16-3 lead after the first quarter, and led 42-6 at halftime, and never looked back in the win.

The Lady Mountaineers were limited to five field goals in the loss, and finish the season with a 2-17 mark.

North Laurel improves to 21-6 while running its win streak to 59 games over 49th District opponents.

“We’re moving on and earning another opportunity to compete for a District Championship,” North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said. “Much respect to OBI, they battled from start to finish and played hard the entire game.”Thirteen players scored in the win for the Lady Jaguars with Kenzie Lawson’s 13 points leading the way. Laylee Phillips, and Paisley Robinson both finished with nine points apiece while Emma Carl added eight points.

“Kenzie Lawson embodies what it means to compete,” Mahan said. “No matter the situation, she gives relentless effort, and tonight was no different. Her energy, toughness, and consistency made her our Player of the Game. I couldn’t be more proud of the way she competed.”
