Defensive-minded Tigers eliminate Jackson County with 64-38 win

MANCHESTER — Clay County coach Michael Jones watched hit team put on a defensive clinic during Monday’s 64-38 win over Jackson County during semifinal action of the 49th District Boys’ Tournament.

The Tigers limited the Generals to 19 points in the first half, and 19 points in the second half to secure the win.

Aiden Wagers came up huge, scoring 29 points while Jacob Rogers added 12 points and four 3-pointers in the win.

“Proud of this group for their consistent effort tonight,” Jones said. “We didn’t shoot the ball well, especially the first half, but we didn’t hang our heads they just kept competing.

“Early in the third they had 28 points, and it was a nine-point game — we called timeout to settle them down and end up switching defenses,” he added. “From that moment, we held them to two points all the way up until late in the fourth quarter, we guarded with a purpose. When you do that, then you start to settle in offensively and shots start to fall.”

Tansen Truett led the Generals with 13 points while Joona Holm and Brendan Combs scored 12 points apiece.
