BARBOURVILLE — Corbin put together a strong second-half rally to defeat Knox Central 65–60 on Friday, evening the Redhounds’ record at 8–8 while handing the Panthers their sixth loss of the season as they fell to 10–6.
Knox Central controlled the early tempo, taking an 11–9 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 27–20 at halftime.
Corbin responded in the third quarter, chipping away at its deficit and tying the game at 43 apiece heading into the final eight minutes.
The Redhounds took control in the fourth quarter behind Trey Person, who scored 10 of his 14 points in the final period to fuel the comeback and seal the win.
“Knox Central plays with a great level of physicality and toughness,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “They busted us in the first half and we didn’t respond all that well.
“I felt like in the second half we were more poised,” he added. “We got the ball in the correct places and a variety of guys made winning plays in crucial situations. Lucas (Brittain) showed some great leadership this evening. Eli scored it and rebounded it well. Trey continues to be a difference-maker for us. We have a big stretch of games ahead. Navigating this weather and keeping some sense of a routine is essential.”
Eli Pietrowski led Corbin with 17 points while Person finished with 14 and Evan Ellis added 10 as the Redhounds found timely scoring down the stretch.
Knox Central was led by Evan Taylor with a game-high 20 points. Spencer Prichard added 15 points, and Evan Hubbard chipped in 11, but the Panthers were unable to hold off Corbin’s late push.
