LONDON — A slow start played a big role in South Laurel’s 63-61 loss to Great Crossing on Friday.
The Cardinals trailed 17-2, and 20-5, in the first quarter and put together a furious comeback attempt before falling by two points. The loss drops South Laurel to 10-9.
“Just can’t get off to a slow start,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “Proud how we battled back. We just have to do better at finiahing these close games. We have been in most of our losses but just cant get that one stop or that one execution at the end.”
Davis’ squad cut heir deficit to 35-32 at halftime, and trailed, 49-48, entering the fourth quarter before falling.
Kaden Taylor and Brayden Cassidy led South Laurel with 14 points apiece while Brendan Murphy added 13 points. Kaiden McQueen turned in a 10-point scoring effort.
