PINEVILLE — Bell County coach Brad Sizemore said it was the best start he’d seen team have in recent memory.
His Bobcats came out red-hot in the opening minutes of Tuesday’s Kentucky 2A, Section 7 title game and never cooled down, defeating Whitley County, 79-43.
Bell County built a 24-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Bobcats held a 50-19 edge at halftime, and a 71-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.
“We came out of the gate on fire that was probably the best first half I’ve been a part of in a long time our defensive pressure and rebounding was unreal,”Sizemore said. “I’m very proud of our kids coming out ready to go against a really good team and hopefully this shows them how good we can be when we play team basketball on both sides of the ball. We’re super excited to get an opportunity to go on to Owensboro to participate in state tournament.”
Ethan Buell led Bell County with 18 points while Blake Burnett and Jaxon Thomas scored 14 points apiece. Braxton Ferguson added 12 points.
Henry Bowling led the Colonels with 12 points while Caleb Cureton had nine.
