Gritty Corbin Effort Comes Up Short in Overtime Loss

LONDON — Rockcastle County outlasted Corbin 69-66 in overtime Monday, but not before the Redhounds turned in a gritty performance despite being shorthanded.

Corbin (2-5) played without leading scorer Evan Ellis, who was sidelined due to illness, yet still pushed the Rockets to overtime.

Corbin trailed 18-12 after the first quarter but responded with a strong second period to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.

Rockcastle County answered after the break, reclaiming the lead at 48-44 entering the fourth quarter.

The Redhounds refused to go away, rallying late to force overtime tied at 58 apiece.

Rockcastle County sealed the win in the extra session behind timely scoring.

Jace Rogers scored five of his 13 points in overtime while Kyler Goodin added three of his team-high 21 points in the period. Walker Craig also chipped in three of his 15 points during overtime.

Eli Pietrowski led all scorers with 22 points for Corbin, including nine points in the fourth quarter to spark the comeback and force overtime. Trey Person added 14 points for the Redhounds.

“Team battled extremely hard tonight,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “With Evan out with sickness, we asked a bunch of kids to play more minutes, different positions and learn on the fly. I thought they gave a great effort and we can learn from this.

“We left a lot out there tonight. Errors that are correctable, but can often be the difference in the game,” Pietrowski added. “Big upside but we have to work to get there.”
