LONDON — South Laurel closed strong Saturday and pulled away late, rolling past Owen County 61-40 in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge to improve to 2-3 on the season.
The Cardinals were in control but had to grind early, leading 14-10 after the first quarter and 25-22 at halftime.
South Laurel created more breathing room in the third quarter, taking a 40-32 advantage into the fourth quarter before putting the game away at the foul line.
The Cardinals sealed the win by going 11-of-14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, finishing the game 18-of-28 from the stripe.
Kaiden McQueen led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points while Braydon Laymen added 11 and Blaine Baker chipped in 10. Kaden Taylor finished with nine points.
