SOMERSET — Tod Windlan’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals went on the road and picked up a big 63-48 win over Southwestern on Friday.
The Lady Cardinals (4-1) turned in one of their best defensive efforts during the season while leading from the get-go.
South Laurel built a 17-6 edge in the first quarter and led 36-15 at halftime before cruising to the win.
“Tonight was a great performance on both ends for South Laurel,” Windlan said. “We defended very well holding them to 15 points at the half while we executed well on the offensive end. We held their leading scorer to eight points and three of them were late in fourth quarter. She came in averaging 20 points per game.
“Callie Jones was aggressive on offense with eight points at half while defending their best player and harassing her to just three points in first half,” he added. “We were led in scoring by Maci Messer with 19 points, Aubrey Bundy had 10, Skeeter Mabe had 10, Callie Jones had 10, Ryleigh Bretz had eight, and eight rebounds. Kenzie Fannin had a nice game off the bench with six points and Shelby Smith was solid with two steals and two assists.”
South Laurel will be back in action Saturday at 7:30 p.m., hosting Letcher Central in the Lisa Collins Classic.
