CORBIN — Whitley County used a strong second and third quarter surge to pull away from Jackson County for a 75-62 win in a big 13th Region matchup on Friday.
The Colonels, now 3-1 on the season, were tied with Jackson County 20-20 at the end of the first quarter before taking control with a 41-32 halftime lead. Whitley County then broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Generals 24-12 to build a commanding 65-44 advantage entering the fourth.
“Another good region win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “We were a little flat coming out but I thought our effort and energy really allowed us to gap them in the second and third quarters.”
Henry Bowling led the Colonels with 19 points, while Tootie Mahan and Levi Jackson each finished with 14 points. Riley Fuson added 13 points, giving Whitley County four players in double figures.
“I love the way we are sharing the ball and having balanced scoring,” Swords said. “We have played four games and had four different leading scorers. We just got to continue focusing on rebounding. Our bench was great, Dee always is but had great mins from Shamal, Centers, and Cureton. Go Colonels.”
Jackson County, which fell to 4-1, was led by Joona Holm with 17 points, while Brennon Combs chipped in 14 points in the loss.
