MCKEE — Jackson County continued its red-hot start to the season Tuesday night, knocking off a strong Breathitt County squad 71-57 to improve to 4-0 — the program’s best start since 2012. The victory also marked the Generals’ first-ever win over Breathitt County in boys basketball.
Jackson County’s defense set the tone early and carried the momentum throughout the night.
“Our defense definitely won us the game,” Jackson County coach Parker Stewart said. “We knew Breathitt had two good scorers that could really fill it up. I think our guys did a great job containing them. I was really impressed with Joona Holm being a big presence on the glass which we will have to have this season.”
Offensively, Brennon Combs delivered a breakout performance, leading the Generals with 21 points. Wyatt Gray added 10 points, while Tansen Truett and Joona Holm chipped in eight apiece.
“Brennon Combs had his breakout game tonight and lead us in scoring with 21 points,” Stewart said. “His leadership and effort carried us tonight. I really can’t say enough about Tansen Truett. He plays with more heart and harder than any kid I’ve ever seen. Every time the balls on the floor I know he’s going after it.”
