ASHLAND — Whitley County’s memorable season came to an end on Monday after dropping a three-set decision to Ashland during first round action of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.
The Lady Colonels entered with a 35-4 record, and hung tough in the first set before falling, 27-25.
Whitley County rebounded in the second half and led throughout until the Kittens took a 21-20 edge, eventually pulling off a 25-21 victory.
Ashland put the match away with a 25-21 win in the third set.
The Lady Colonels finish the season with a 35-6 mark, losing to only four teams this season Corbin (3), Ashland, and Lafayette.
They won the 50th District championship while also capturing their fourth consecutive 13th Region title during the process.
