PINEVILLE — Bell County and Pulaski County hooked up in a heavyweight battle that turned in to an instant classic on Friday.
Both teams delivered in the clutch but in the end, the Maroons did just enough to pull out a 35-34 win in double overtime.
Joseph Brigmon’s touchdown reception in the second overtime gave the Bobcats a 34-28 lead, but Pulaski County’s defense stepped up on Bell County’s two-point conversion.
Bell County quarterback Blake Burnett’s pass fell just out of reach of his receiver’s hands.
The Maroons answered on their ensuing possession as Kasen Brock’s eight-yard touchdown run tied the game at 34 apiece. Bryson Mounce added the PAT to give Pulaski County the win.
The Maroons had the 13th Region’s number this season, beating Bell County, Corbin, North Laurel, and South Laurel this season.
The loss ended the Bobcats’ hopes of going undefeated. Bell County is now 9-1 and will be back in action Friday at home against Powell county during first round action of the Class 3A playoffs.
