HARLAN — In a battle worthy of a championship, Harlan County outlasted Bell County in a five-set thriller to capture the 52nd District Tournament title on Tuesday night.
The Lady Black Bears rallied for a hard-fought 22-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10 victory to reclaim district supremacy.
Tournament MVP Savannah Hill, who recorded her 2,000th career assist during the win, led the charge for Harlan County, helping her team overcome multiple momentum swings and a determined Bell County squad that had its sights set on the trophy.
With the win, Harlan County improves to 18-13 and will carry strong momentum into next week’s 13th Region Tournament. Bell County, which pushed the Lady Bears to the brink, falls to 26-12 but will also advance to regional play.
