Oneida Baptist rolls past Harlan County to reach 13th Region title game

BARBOURVILLE — Oneida Baptist put together one of its most dominant performances of the season Monday night, cruising to a 13-0 win over Harlan County in the semifinals of the 13th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament.

The victory pushes the Mountaineers to 17-3 on the year while ending the Black Bears’ season at 8-6. With the win, Oneida Baptist advances to Wednesday’s championship game, where they’ll meet North Laurel at 6:30 p.m.

It was an all-around showcase for the Mountaineers, who saw ten different players find the back of the net. Nahom Yuna, Matti Shiferaw, and Beka Kassa each scored two goals apiece to lead the way. Hero Khajohnsupawatchara, Pietro Lee, Amadeus Martin, Cedar Tive, Mike Dawit, Henrique Gabardo, and Surafel Getu also added goals in the lopsided win.

Oneida Baptist coach Hunter House said he was proud of how balanced and focused his team remained throughout the match. “Really happy we were able to spread out the scoring and get everyone some minutes tonight,” he said. “Jeremiah Mpinbaza was given the start in goal tonight and was able to keep a clean sheet. We will get back to the training ground tomorrow to prepare for a really tough region final on Wednesday.”
