Corbin edges South Laurel, advances to 49th District title game

LONDON — The Corbin Lady Redhounds are heading back to the 49th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament championship after defeating South Laurel, 2-1, on Wednesday.

After falling to the Lady Cardinals earlier in the season, Corbin (8-10) flipped the script this time, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Emma Massengill opened the scoring at the 35:58 mark, while Mary Simons extended the advantage with a goal at 15:21.

South Laurel (2-11) battled back, cutting the deficit to 2-1 on a second-half strike with 27:40 remaining, but the Lady Redhounds held firm down the stretch to secure the victory.

With the win, Corbin advances to the district championship game where the Lady Redhounds will meet North Laurel.
