Williamsburg shakes off rust, cruises past Pineville with 48-8 win

PINEVILLE — After nearly three weeks off, Williamsburg showed little sign of rust, rolling past Pineville, 48-8, in district play on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets, who hadn’t taken the field since September 12, improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in district competition. Pineville dropped to 3-4 and 1-1 in district play.

“Boys played hard,” Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron said. “We were a little rusty early due off weeks. Defense played really well.”

Williamsburg’s defense set the tone with Gary Tye returning a fumble for a touchdown, while Hayden Kleinert snagged two interceptions — one of them for a pick-six.

Quarterback Reece Hatcher had a big night, tossing four touchdown passes. Peyton Hamilton was his top target, hauling in three touchdown receptions. Lane Jeffries added another scoring catch, while TJ Cornett contributed a touchdown reception along with a two-point conversion grab.

The Yellow Jackets also converted on the ground as Isiah Sizemore and Eli Meadors each added two-point conversion runs.
