North Laurel Proves Doubters Wrong Again with Third Straight Top-10 Victory

LONDON — North Laurel continues to prove the doubters wrong, capturing its third straight victory over a top-10 opponent. This time, the Jaguars knocked off Class 5A’s seventh-ranked Collins Titans, rallying late for a 19-14 win at The Jungle.

The Jaguars fought back from early deficits of 7-0 and 14-13 in the fourth quarter to secure the statement win.

North Laurel grabbed a 13-7 lead late in the third quarter when quarterback Jude McWhorter connected with Colton Gilbert for a 20-yard touchdown. Then, with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, McWhorter delivered the decisive blow, a 35-yard touchdown strike to Braxton Fultz. Cooper Robinson also added a rushing score in the victory.

“I’m so proud of the adversity we overcame tonight,” North Laurel coach Steven Nelson said. “We had some key guys get hurt early on in the game and that really affected the way we had to call plays. The offensive line had a great night and Jude McWhorter, Braxton Fultz, Colton Gilbert and Cooper Robinson really stepped up and took over the football game.

“We could’ve easily laid down with the injuries and lost this game,” he added. “I’m so proud of these guys, that is the best they have played this season and I am beyond proud of how we responded all game long. This team has no quit in them and the defense played stellar again. Go Jags.”
