BARBOURVILLE — Barbourville continued its hot streak on Thursday night, rallying past Pineville in four sets to notch its seventh win in a row. The Lady Tigers improved to 14-9 overall and 4-1 in district play with a 3-1 victory (16-25, 25-13, 25-23, 26-24).
Pineville came in fresh off a district win over Lynn Camp and looked ready to shake off three earlier losses to Barbourville this season.
The Lady Lions (10-10, 1-3) stormed out in the opener, breaking away from a tight start to win 25-16.
But Barbourville responded in dominant fashion in the second set.
The Lady Tigers raced out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back, evening the match with a 25-13 win.
The third set proved pivotal.
Pineville battled from behind to tie the frame late, pulling even at 22, but Barbourville held strong, pulling away for a 25-23 decision.
The fourth set was just as dramatic. Pineville built a 24-18 lead and looked poised to force a deciding fifth set, but Barbourville stormed back with an 8-0 run to steal the win, 26-24, and close out the match.
The victory marked Barbourville’s 11th win in its last 12 outings, while Pineville dropped back to .500 on the year.
Barbourville will compete this weekend in the First Priority Tournament, while Pineville travels to Berea on Sept. 29.
