WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets came up just short in a marathon matchup Thursday night, falling to Leslie County in five hard-fought sets, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12.
It was a back-and-forth contest from the opening serve, as Williamsburg evened the match twice to force a decisive fifth set. The Lady Jackets showed grit and determination throughout, but Leslie County was able to pull away late to secure the narrow victory.
Despite the tough loss, Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta expressed pride in his team’s effort and resilience.
“We played another very competitive match tonight against another quality opponent,” he said. “I love this group of girls and the way they keep playing, no matter the circumstance. We will get back into the 13th Region competition next week and are looking forward to the challenge! As always, Go Jackets.”
