LONDON — Defending 13th Region champion Whitley County picked up another key 50th District victory Thursday night, rolling past South Laurel in straight sets.
The Lady Colonels controlled the match from the start, winning by scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-19. The win improves Whitley County to 11-3 on the season, while the Lady Cardinals fall to 6-12.
Whitley County coach David Halcomb said he was proud of the way his team started strong and stayed locked in.
“Our girls came out with a lot of focus tonight and we are beginning to start matches better, which wasn’t the case earlier in the season,” he said. “This was a big win for us with it being a 50th District matchup and I’m proud of our girls. Our serving was really good in the first two sets, but cost us too many points in the third. These matches aren’t about an opponent, as much as it is against ourself.
“When we play clean volleyball on our side of the net and don’t have multiple unforced errors — we are pretty dang good,” Halcomb added. “This team has a desire to play at a higher level and we are getting there — doing much better with the things we’ve emphasized in practice the last two weeks.”
