CORBIN — The Corbin Lady Redhounds picked up a key road victory Thursday, shutting out Somerset, 3-0, to improve to 5-7 on the season.
Emma Massengill opened the scoring in the first half to give Corbin the early 1-0 advantage. Not long after, Sophia Cima extended the lead with a goal at the 36:01 mark to make it 2-0.
Cima added her second goal of the night in the second half at the 22:03 mark, putting the match out of reach and sealing the 3-0 win.
Coach Hannah Goins praised her team’s effort.
“We played well tonight,” she said. “Super-proud of my team. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs lately and we came out united tonight and really controlled the game.
“We looked more organized tonight all over the field,” she added. “We still need to work on some finishing but our shots finally started to fall. It was a really good win for us. The morale is definitely high right now so hopefully we can keep that up and come in strong against our district competition next week.”
