South Laurel drops road contest to Lincoln County

STANFORD — South Laurel’s girls’ soccer team showed grit early but couldn’t hold on, falling 8-0 to Lincoln County on Thursday.

The Lady Cardinals trailed just 1-0 at halftime after a strong defensive and possession-focused effort. But Lincoln County pulled away in the second half to hand South Laurel its seventh loss of the season, dropping them to 0-7.

South Laurel will look to rebound and earn its first win of the season Monday when it hosts Bell County.

“The first half we were full of confidence which showed as we held them 1-0,” South Laurel coach Jessica Perkins said. “We did great connecting passes and held possession the majority of time. We didn’t end with the results we wanted but the girls have proved that they are resilient and full of heart.”
