Knox Central Outlasts Barbourville in Five-Set District Battle

BARBOURVILLE — The Knox Central Lady Panthers survived a 51st District volleyball thriller on Tuesday, edging rival Barbourville 3-2 in a back-and-forth showdown. With the victory, Knox Central improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district play, while Barbourville dropped to 3-7 and 1-1.

The Lady Tigers opened strong, taking the first set 25-21. Knox Central answered back with a 25-21 win of their own in the second before pulling out a tight 26-24 victory in the third. Barbourville refused to go away, responding with a 25-23 win in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set.

In the final frame, the Lady Panthers built a 10-6 lead before Barbourville clawed back to tie the match at 13. But Knox Central kept its composure, winning the final two points to secure a 15-13 set win and the match.
