PINEVILLE — Defending 51st District champion Pineville came up short Tuesday night, falling to rival Knox Central in four sets.
The Lady Panthers claimed the match by scores of 25-12, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22.
Knox Central jumped out early, controlling the first two sets with strong serving and consistent play. Pineville responded in the third, battling to a 25-20 win to keep the match alive.
In the decisive fourth set, Knox Central opened with a 10-3 run, but Pineville refused to go away quietly.
The Lady Lions clawed back to within a point at 20-19 before Knox Central closed the door with a 5-3 finish to seal the victory.
The win keeps Knox Central unbeaten at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play, while Pineville slipped to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the district.
