Corbin Sweeps Williamsburg in 50th District Opener

CORBIN — The Lady Redhounds opened district play in impressive fashion Tuesday night, sweeping rival Williamsburg in straight sets, 25-8, 25-20, and 25-10.

The victory pushes Corbin to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the 50th District, while the Lady Jackets fell to 4-5 and 0-1 in district play.

Corbin coach Krystal Jones praised her team’s effort and highlighted the contributions of several key players.

“I’m really proud of the intensity and energy our girls showed tonight at home,” Jones said. “Harper Newcomb, just an eighth grader, stepped up big with 34 assists in a three-set match. Shelbi led us with 15 kills, Brooke added 10, and Annabelle Griffin contributed 9. We’re starting to see some strong setter, hitter connections forming, and that’s exciting for where this team is headed.

“Our defense was solid tonight and really stepped up when we needed it most,” she added. “It’s always a good feeling to get that first district win under our belts. In the 50th District, you’ve got to show up every single night—there are no easy games, and every win is hard fought. We know there’s still plenty to build on, but we’re taking it brick by brick. The future is bright. Go Hounds.”
